Prescriptions

Key points to note

  1. You can request repeat prescriptions online or by using tear off paper slip given by your chemist or surgery at the time repeat pescription was raised.
  2. Due to safety reasons reception team are unable to take prescription requests on telephone
  3. Please allow three full working days (72 hours) for repeat prescriptions to be processed and remember to take weekends and bank holidays into account.
  4. It can take time for the pharmacy to deal with routine prescription requests and prepare items for collection. So we recommend routine repeat medication requests are submitted a week before the medication is required.
  5. Every year there are thousands of errors recorded related to medicines and some can be harmful to people so please work with us to ensure safe use of medicines. A brief well spent time in careful consideration of requests can save great deal of difficulties later on.

Repeat Prescriptions

Prescriptions are generally issued by computer. If you take medication regularly please ask your doctor whether this should be prescribed as a computerised repeat prescription. You will then have a tear-off request slip with details of your medication.

To order a repeat prescription you should indicate which items you require and then either bring the tear off slip to the surgery.

It can take time for the pharmacy to deal with routine prescription requests and prepare items for collection. So we recommend routine repeat medication requests are submitted a week before the medication is required.

Alternatively you can order online via the link at the top of this page. New users are required to complete a simple registration.

We regret we cannot usually accept telephone requests for repeat prescriptions as these can lead to mistakes.

PLEASE NOTE: When a prescription needs to be collected from the surgery they will NOT be given out to anyone aged 15 years old or younger.

Please allow three full working days for prescriptions to be processed and remember to take weekends and bank holidays into account.

eConsult

You are welcome to use eConsult as an alternative to request your repeat prescription. You can follow link above to raise an econsult and follow link for administrative requests.

Patients on repeat medication are invited to organise review of their medications at least once a year to review their regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip. Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.

We will also welcome your help to complete your own medication review or review of long term conditions such as diabetes, highblood pressure or contraceptive pills. Please follow link below to eConsult platform in order to organise medications review yourself

Urgent Prescription Requests - Please work with us to minimise Prescription Errors

Every year there are thousands of errors recorded related to medicines and some can be harmful to people so please work with us to ensure safe use of medicines. A brief well spent time in careful consideration of requests can save great deal of difficulties later on.

  1. It is our policy to allow 72 hours (3 working days) for routine repeat prescription requests to be processed and encourage timely requests to be raised giving us reasonably plenty time to process.
  2. In order to ensure safe and appropriate use of medicines we routinely review all requests, and deal with the requests according to clinical needs.
  3. Urgent prescription requests are requests for medications that must be taken regularly to prevent people become severely unwell – they include medicines for treatment of epilepsy, diabetes, respiratory problems, morning after pill and Epipen.
  4. Urgent requests for medications that can be purchased over the counter are best purchased from the chemist - we politely request that such items are not requested urgently from the practice.
  5. Please bear in mind that urgent prescription requests are not requests for medication which have been ordered late - your advance planning is much appreciated.
  6. In exceptional circumstances where clinically indicated, we will endeavour to arrange an urgent prescription before 6pm on the same day of request and expect our patients to please make the requests as soon as they realise they need urgent prescription.
